PROJECT SURFACE :
12000 Sq. m
AIM OF THE PROJECT :
The E-ELT project (European – Extremely Large Telescope), envisage the realization of a ground-based Telescope with a main mirror of 39 meters in diameter. E-ELT will be the largest optical/infrared telescope in the world: “the world’s biggest eye on the sky” (source: ESO-ELT ).
E-ELT will be sited in Chile on Cerro Armazones a mountain at an altitude of 3046 meters at, about, 150 km from the town of Antofagasta and 25 km from Cerro Paranal Observatory, where VLT (Very Large Telescope) is located.
The observatory is composed of a telescope housed inside a rotating dome structure on whose upper part there are two doors that open during the observations.
The telescope consists of a base, on which a mobile structure – hosting a series of integrated optical, electronic and control systems – is installed.
